FG Begins RHWDP Enrolment in All Wards Across Nigeria

The Federal Government has officially begun enrolling beneficiaries for the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP), a grassroots initiative designed to reach Nigerians directly in their communities. Unlike many past programmes that struggled to touch people at ward level, this one is structured to start from where daily life actually happens — the wards.

Across the country, enrolment has quietly started, with some states already running pilot exercises to test systems and fine-tune implementation. For many local communities, this marks one of the most coordinated federal interventions they have seen in recent years.

At its core, the RHWDP is about inclusion. Each ward is expected to enrol at least 1,000 beneficiaries, while larger wards may take up to 2,000 people. When fully rolled out, the programme aims to reach about 8.8 million Nigerians across 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas. That scale alone shows the government’s intention to make the programme visible, measurable, and impactful at the lowest level of governance.

What makes this approach different is how the enrolment is being handled. Instead of a single national desk, each state operates through its RHWDP Coordination Office, working under the guidance of the state governor. These offices are responsible for ensuring that enrolment is fair, balanced, and truly community-based. The focus is not just on numbers, but on reaching the right people.

From what has been observed in states where pilot enrolment has begun, priority is being given to unemployed youths, smallholder farmers, and owners of micro, small, and medium-scale businesses. Artisans, technicians, traders, and persons with disabilities are also clearly included. There is a deliberate push to ensure women are not sidelined, with at least 30 percent of beneficiaries expected to be economically active women.

The enrolment process itself is designed to be practical. Beneficiaries are registered within their own wards, making verification easier and reducing the risk of ghost entries. Having a valid National Identification Number (NIN) is mandatory, and applicants must be residents of the ward or local government where they are enrolling. These checks, though simple, are critical for credibility and long-term trust in the programme.

One quiet but important strength of the RHWDP is stakeholder engagement. Community leaders and relevant local actors are expected to be involved, not just informed. This helps spread accurate information, reduces confusion, and ensures that people understand both the opportunity and the requirements before showing up to enrol.

What people are asking most right now
Many Nigerians want to know a simple thing: Where do I enrol? The answer is straightforward. Eligible applicants should visit the RHWDP ward office under their state coordinator. Enrolment is done physically at the community level, not online-only, which helps those without digital access.

A grounded perspective
From a development standpoint, programmes like RHWDP work best when they stay close to the people they are meant to serve. By anchoring enrolment at ward level and insisting on verifiable data, the government is reducing a major weakness that has affected past interventions. If implementation remains consistent across states, the RHWDP could become a reference point for how federal programmes should reach ordinary Nigerians.

One practical takeaway
If you or someone in your community may qualify, do not wait for rumours or social media posts. Visit your ward office early, go with your NIN, and confirm details directly from the state RHWDP coordinators. Early engagement often makes the difference between being counted and being left out.
